Small Donations Are Big Wins Too

Donors, if you are wondering whether making a small donation to an organization is worthwhile… It is!

Development Directors, if you are wondering whether stewardship of small gifts is worthwhile… It is!

The definition of small is relative to each individual donor and nonprofit, but there is a universal truth about small donations – they add up to so much more. Consider this…

  • A small donation sometimes lead to a larger gift.
  • A small donation may represent an individual that possesses 10x the passion and commitment for your organization that a major donor has, an individual who simply has a budget without flexibility for larger giving but who may have time or energy to champion your organization in other ways.
  • Small donations can translate into big contributions.

Donors, remember:

– A gift of any size makes a difference.
– Give at a level that makes sense for your budget.
– Starting small is a great way to get to know more about an organization, and you may choose to increase your gift in the future.

Nonprofits, keep in mind:

– A donor that gives a small gift today may decide to give a larger gift tomorrow.
– Monthly, sustained giving may appeal to a donor with less room in their budget for large annual or year-end gifts.
– It is important to have as thoughtful of a stewardship plan for small donors as for major donors – how are you soliciting, how are you engaging, how are you thanking donors in meaningful ways for different audiences?

Those that the organization serves, donors, and the nonprofit all win when we look beyond the dollar amount and capitalize on all supporters’ generosity and passion for the cause.
