Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
The Open Door provided fresh and healthy food to more than 6,000 people each month, making food more accessible to residents across Dakota County. Through our healthy food focus and innovative programs, we have sought to redefine how communities approach hunger relief.
Through our collective programs the volunteers and staff of The Open Door provide more than 1 million pounds of food annually, 60% of which is fresh and/or perishable. Clients access nutritious food options through a fixed-site food pantry in Eagan, more than 20 Mobile Pantry sites across west-central Dakota County, the summer-focused Mobile Lunchbox, and our 8 Garden to Table community gardens where clients can grow their own fresh fruits and vegetables.
Current Goals
Serve 15% more food-insecure families through strategic expansion of our Mobile Food Programs.
Pilot new school-based healthy food distribution in Fall 2019.
Produce 10% increase in plots available for food-insecure families through Garden to Table Program expansion.
Increase organizational efficiency through improved volunteer management practices including addition of volunteer database.
