The Open Door

Mission Statement

A fresh approach to ending local hunger through access to healthy food.

Impact and Programs

Accomplishments The Open Door supplied 10% more food than we did in 2020. Collectively, our programs provided 2.9 million pounds of food to those in need in Dakota county. We offered over 300 free garden plots to our clients to grow healthy food. Delivered more than 26,000 meals to students in 26 different neighborhoods during the summer via our Mobile Lunchbox program. Served between 10,000 and 15,000 individuals every month in 2021. Volunteers donated 36,623 hours to the organization.
Current Goals Sustain increased spending on culturally specific food. Add a new senior apartment complex to the Mobile Pantry program. Provide fresh food to five neighborhoods throughout Dakota County via weekly Pop Up Produce stands. Add South St. Paul school district to the Mobile Lunch Box program serving school-aged children during summer months. Expand Garden to Table program by adding to the existing 300+ garden plots available for clients to grow their own fresh produce.
