Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
MDI provided employment to 710 people: 238 full-time employees, 94 part-time employees, 280 contract, and 108 part-time contract. With employment comes job support and training, access to professional skills seminars, and career counseling. It is legal to pay people with disabilities less than minimum wage. But at MDI, all employees make at least minimum wage and receive full benefits. It's an unusual business model, and it's paid off for we, the employer, loyalty and effort in spades, and for our employees, many of whom gain a sense of success and independence for the first time in their lives.
Current Goals
From the business side of our operation, the more customers we have, the more jobs we need to fill. MDI continues to invest in growing sales. We have three salespeople for plastic logisitics containers, one more business services in Minneapolis, and a national sales person for Medical Services.
New clients and products mean new skills for employees.
We continue to offer employees Career Skills 101 and 201. Our placement office will prepare employee(s) with resume writing and mock interviews if they'd like to work outside MDI.
Community or Constituency Served
Of our 500-some employees, approximately half are people with disabilities. Among all of us you will find people of color, various faiths, and LGBTQ people.
Geographic Area Served
