Mission Statement
The mission of West Hennepin Affordable Housing Land Trust is to use the Community Land Trust practice to provide permanently affordable homeownership for working families that would be otherwise unable to buy a home in the Hennepin County suburban communities, offering both communities and homebuyers the ability to sustain long-term affordable homeownership.
Impact and Programs
Accomplishments
In 2019, created 8 new affordable homes for workforce families in the suburbs of Hennepin County and assisted with 3 resales; as of 12/31/2019, WHAHLT assisted 183 families become homeowners, since yr 2002. Raised over 2.2 millions to carry out the organizations mission of creating and sustaining affordable homeownership. Raised funds and hired part-time Administrative Coordinator to assist with data collection and application process for interested buyers. Developed a board approved Networking Plan to implement in 2020. Created and installed homeowner section of the HWR website. Implemented a new Strategic Plan (2019-2023) approved by the Board of Directors in October 2018. Continued the implementation of the Board Recruitment Plan through recruitment, education and strategic focus.
Current Goals
2020 Goals:
Create and sustain 10 -15 new affordable homes for workforce families.
Implement new Networking Plan developed in 2019 in advocating the CLT program through education, marketing/networking and lobbying efforts.
Develop new HWR membership requirements as part of the new Networking Plan initiatives.
Expand Homeowner Forum via the website and electronic communication.
Continue the efforts to expand services through the development of new collaborative relationships with communities, providers and vendors.
Raise $1.4 -$1.8 million to support housing production
Integrate HomeKeeper data system with HWR’s internal system
Ongoing Board Development in the areas of recruitment, assessment and education.
Raise local private funds to assist in retaining and increasing staffing resources to sustain and grow staffing expertise and experience to assist in meeting program goals and objectives.
Upgrade website fund development and strategic plan sections

West Hennepin Affordable Housing Land Trust service area is suburban Hennepin County, exclusive of Minneapolis. Our target market is low - to - moderate income workforce households with income at 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI). In practice, it has served households between 31% and 79% AMI, the average program wide AMI is 59%.
This extensive area was chosen in recognition of the interconnection of suburban Hennepin County communities, the challenges of providing affordable homeownership within the suburbs and the need for additional suburban workforce housing.

West Hennepin Affordable housing Land Trust dba Homes Within Reach service area is the 44 communities of suburban Hennepin County and is currently active in twelve and in 2020 the thirteenth community will be served in the suburban communities in Hennepin County.
