Nonprofit Spotlight: Light of Hope Kenya

Meet Light of Hope Kenya!

By KRIS KEWITSCH | Executive Director | Charities Review Council

Light of Hope provides refuge, restoration and redirection for girls experiencing marginalization in Kenya, from poverty to sexual violence to forced labor and marriage. Since 2005, Light of Hope has been providing safety, education, and stability to more than 150 girls.

We recently asked Light of Hope Kenya:

Q: What would the community miss without your organization?

Girls in Kenya would continue to be marginalized and taken advantage of, abused and neglected, sometimes even by those they should be able to trust. The community would be missing out on the full potential of what these incredible girls can do with an education in hand. We are excited about adding more grade levels at our school and expanding opportunities for the girls to learn about everything they dream of.

Light of Hope Kenya earns the Meets Standards® seal through Charities Review Council’s Accountability Wizard® online tool.

Q: How has assessing your organization with the Accountability Wizard® strengthened your capabilities or led to improvements?

Some items on the checklist were things we had not thought of, for example the board evaluation. Our board is a group of amazing people who go above and beyond. What’s been missing is how we can best serve them while they serve the mission. Also with the Wizard’s guidance, we created annual reports that are educational, colorful, and full of life and information so that everyone can better understand the need in the community that we serve and how we meet this need year after year.

Here you can find their latest annual report and financials.
