Meet Haiti Teen Challenge!
An international organization with Minnesota roots, Haiti Teen Challenge invests in and revitalizes Haiti by providing the country’s only residential recovery program for young men and women.
In 2008, a group from Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge (another Meets Standards® nonprofit) visited Port-au-Prince and were moved by the community’s daily struggles and deep poverty. Through idea-sharing and partnerships, Haiti Teen Challenge officially opened in 2011. Haiti Teen Challenge served 188 young men and women last year, with 97% of participants successfully graduating from the program.
We recently asked Haiti Teen Challenge,
Q: What would the community miss without your organization?
We are the only addiction recovery program in Haiti. Haitians helping Haitians is a great model, and our centers are multiplying. We are highly collaborative, partnering with universities and creating a network for expansion. We’re starting a new radio station that will help get content out across the nation.
Haiti Teen Challenge earns the Meets Standards® seal through Charities Review Council’s Accountability Wizard® online tool.
Q: How has assessing your organization with the Accountability Wizard® strengthened your capabilities or led to improvements?
Our data integrity has greatly improved. Reporting measurables and the process by which we’re accountable has solidified through the Accountability Wizard®. We have looked at our 3- and 5-year plans and updated our strategies. Increased board involvement has been key to our growth.
