Meet DARTS!
Celebrating their 50th anniversary year, DARTS has been creating connections that enrich aging since 1974. They aim to transform the aging journey from a challenge into a celebration!
DARTS offers a range of impactful services for older adults and their caregivers and families in the southeast metro – transportation assistance, house cleaning, grocery shopping, resource navigation, support groups, and more. With the rise of social isolation for people of all ages in Minnesota over the past few years, DARTS offers tremendous value to the community – 93% of client responses say they feel less isolated because of DARTS.

Q: What would the community miss without your organization?
In the southeast metro, DARTS is the only organization solely focused on supporting those over age 50 and those caring for an older adult. We see that volunteer opportunities and small household supports can help an older person thrive and feel valued.
DARTS is making great strides in reaching people who have typically been underserved, which in turn generates new ideas as to ways we can support the population over 50. As the older demographic increases as a percent of the population, reducing the available working age people, we all need to think differently about services in order to create communities where all ages can thrive.
DARTS earns the Meets Standards® seal through Charities Review Council’s Accountability Wizard® online tool.
Q: How has assessing your organization with the Accountability Wizard® strengthened your capabilities or led to improvements?
The recommendation to review board policies and bylaws annually is something that we have followed for many years. Often new guidance from the Accountability Wizard® offers us a better lens to review our policies anew. Most recently, we looked at the equity and inclusion best practices and found places where our bylaws could be more inclusive. Some changes were as simple as updating he/she to they or the role name.
