Kris Kewitsch | Executive Director, Charities Review Council | June 2024
Accountability is Not a Bad Word
KSTP recently reported on a warning issued by the Minnesota Attorney General to a local restaurant group regarding their charitable and solicitation practices, and the Council’s Executive Director was interviewed for her insight on nonprofit operations and oversight.
Emphasizing the importance of building strong nonprofit-donor relationships, E.D. Kris Kewitsch explained:
“Accountability isn’t a bad thing. It’s not a bad word,” she said.
“I should be able to let you know here’s what the organization is accomplishing this year.”
The Council helps organizations build and demonstrate the accountability that donors and the State of Minnesota expect from the nonprofit sector. Our Accountability Standards® provide benchmarks of nonprofit governance, finances, fundraising, and public communication, representing a balance of nonprofit sector promising practices, public expectations, and legal requirements.
Nonprofits can engage in our Accountability Wizard® review process to strengthen capacity and demonstrate transparency, and donors can identify and connect with strong nonprofits through our list of Meets Standards® reviewed nonprofits. With accountability, nonprofits and donors can partner deeply on community issues to help communities thrive.
