Taking Time to Reflect on the Loss of George Floyd

Our community is in grief.

The recent murder of George Floyd has shaken both individuals and organizations to their core. Dismantling racism and intolerance is an everyday commitment not only in words but in action as well. George Floyd was a member of our community. His life had purpose and we grieve not just the loss of a human being but a man who was making the world better through his own outreach and volunteerism.

At Charities Review Council, one of our core values is in leading the way, moving forward with a human-centric approach to not only offer equitable donor information but to form lasting connections between nonprofits and donors for the greater good of the communities we serve.

Our mission has never wavered. We are here to build donor and non-profit relations for strong, vibrant, and just communities. And today, we’re committed deeply to reflecting on current events, listening to our communities, and standing in solidarity.

We are closed Monday to give our staff time to reflect on how together, we can move forward to listen to individuals of color, elevate organizations serving those who need support, and create meaningful conversations that remove bias in each facet of our nation. In order to have a strong community, we need to better identify how to put relationships and people first, a human-centric approach focused with a lens on equity and inclusion for all. That thought is foremost on our minds.

As we strengthen our mission through the hard work of what’s ahead, we invite you to an open dialog in sharing with us what is most important as we move forward: What do we need to know from our own communities to reflect their needs into the important work we’re striving to accomplish. If you would like to share with us, please reach out personally to, info@smartgivers.org. We check this email daily.

Thank you for allowing us to pause, reflect, and then begin the difficult work of elevating diversity, equity, and inclusion back into our workplaces, organizations and communities.
