ComMUSICation

Mission Statement

To empower youth with life skills through music, service, and community.

Impact and Programs

Accomplishments We served over 100 1st-7th grade students from over 17 schools including the four St. Paul Promise Neighborhood schools. We relocated our office to the Mt. Airy Boys & Girls Club (BGC) and started the Crescendo training choir program there. CMC Choir expanded to five days/week with a youth advisory council and piano lessons. They continued to rehearse at our flagship site, St. Paul City School, and collaborated with other Twin Cities youth choirs, Macalester College Choir, University of St. Thomas Summit Singers, Conservation for Kids, and Musicians from the MN Orchestra, the Ordway, Singers in Accord and McNally Smith for the second time. I am so grateful for all of our supporters like you, as well as our community partners, collaborators, and dedicated staff and volunteers that have made yet another year possible! We also increased our donor database to include significant support from St. Paul, Bigelow, Mardag, Traveler’s, and Sheltering Arms Foundations.
Current Goals 1) To grow number of students in program while maintaining a 10:1 student:staff ratio 2) To explore what transition after 8th grade looks like re: student leadership roles 3) To strengthen Crescendo program structure and attendance
Community or Constituency Served ComMUSICation builds relationships among St. Paul Promise Neighborhood (SPPN) residents by utilizing community partners through an intensive afterschool youth development choral program encouraging family involvement and community engagement. The SPPN is located in the heart of St. Paul’s historic Frogtown and Summit-University neighborhoods. Many of our families struggle with transportation and the cost many afterschool programs require so CMC is a tuition-free program with all needed supplies, snack, and transportation provided.
