CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW:
The Miracles of Mitch Foundation receives a significant amount of in-kind donations for one of its programs. However, the 990 does not include these expenses as program expenses. The “990 Snapshot” and the “3 Year Average Charity Expenses Data” also do not reflect the value of these in-kind goods and services as program expenses which, if included, would provide a more accurate view of the organization’s use of resources. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Miracles of Mitch are the daily good works inspired by 9-year-old Mitch Chepokas to help the families of children battling cancer in Minnesota. Sealed with a pinky swear between Mitch and his father, Steve, The Miracles of Mitch Foundation was created to honor Mitch’s desire to support these families during a stressful time in their lives. Many families coping with a child’s long-term or terminal illness experience financial difficulties due to one or both parents decreasing their work schedule to be with the child. MOMF provides help through financial and quality-of-life assistance. We also host Minnesota Miracle weekend getaways for cancer families, and sponsor a week-long summer camp for current and past cancer patients and their siblings. In the case of a child with an advanced stage of cancer, the foundation creates specially-tailored quality-of-life initiatives. MOMF works through social workers at Minnesota’s primary pediatric cancer treatment facilities: Children’s Hospitals of Minneapolis and St. Paul; University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview; Mayo Clinic and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. Grant disbursements are typically processed within 48 hours of approval. In addition, we are proud to host one of the largest kids’ triathlons in the country - the MiracleKids Triathlon - with approximately 1,000 “kids racing for kids who can’t” and raising money for the MOMF mission. To learn more about how you can help keep Mitch’s pinky swear, visit us at www.miraclesofmitch.org.
